Hi, all -- and thanks for the invite, pk. Great idea & I'm looking forward to watching this forum grow. :)
I'm just an Idaho farmgirl who lives in the country and works in the city. My sport of choice is equine endurance racing...which is convenient, because caring for a herd of horses plus a bunch of other critters adds up to a lot of moving slowly.
I eat nearly 100% primal, work out hard and often, and am learning the value of rest. :o I went primal nearly 4 months ago, after my mostly-vegan diet proved inadequate to keep up with my bodybuilding and I figured out that grains were responsible for my frequent bloating. Best part of being primal? No hunger crashes!
My favorite things include: Hoofed mammals, heavy squats, skillful writing, gourmet cooking, farm labor, striking photos, October afternoons, soft clothes, bare arms, straight whiskey, and looking good naked.

Hi BarbeyGirl, nice to see another familiar name from MDA. I checked out your blog a couple of weeks ago - very cool. I am reassured by your story of being vegan, then doing lots of research and transitioning to Primal. I still have doubts and insecurities about eating so much animal fat, and it's helpful to hear from others who are more confident.

I made the shift over a couple months, prodded by the need for more power during my workouts. Vegan -- which I'd enjoyed very much -- just wasn't cutting it anymore! I started with daily servings of fish and eggs. Then, when I decided to nix the grains, I added other meats and haven't turned back. I haven't had any medical panels done (before or after), but I can tell you that I feel fantastic and am leaner and stronger than ever!

That is awesome! Great to hear. I feel the same since swapping carbs for fat.

Yes, good point, pk. I should have been more clear that I shifted my protein up some, my fat up a lot, and my carbs down a lot. (I traded more carbs for fat than for protein.)
