Let's hear it!

Me: in & out of various projects, freelancing and exploring at the moment :)

Ha! I was just coming over here to post the same question. :)

I oversee public charter schools for the state. That's what I do for A living.

For LIVING, I: Train and ride endurance horses, work out, cook, garden, write, read, and ponder.

Recent college graduate. I just ended a six month professional tennis stint (ranked about 1442 in the world baby!)... currently applying for jobs. Will keep the forum posted! haha.

I'm an RN in the operating room of a small rural hospital. When I worked the med-surg (inpatient) floor, I had ample opportunity to witness how unhealthy lifestyles contributed to poor health. The vast majority of the patients would not have been hospitalized were it not for their diet & smoking. Surgical patients are much healthier!

Annika - it will be great having someone who has been a first hand witness to the detrimental effects that a common day diet can have.

Barbey - are charter schools, in practice, as good as the idea of them (in theory)? Do you work with a lot of arts magnets, that's cool stuff.

I am a pre-med (trying to stick with the rigorous program) at the University of Colorado. For the next few weeks all my posts will be short because I just had wrist surgery and can only type with one hand. ;)

Nice to have you here KL... sorry to hear about your wrist... sure the fact that you are primal will have you healing faster.

I teach upper elementary science and use every opportunity to get in a little Primal proselytizing!

pkafka - About charter schools, even though I'm not Barbey - 6 years of working for the Dallas Independent School District was enough for me, and I went looking for the most opposite experience I could find. I'm now at a charter school, working longer hours for far less pay, and I couldn't be happier. Charters can be as great in practice as in theory, when run by the proper people. We have a good curriculum and teachers are encouraged to enhance the curriculum with their own experience and resources. Also, at my school, kids get computers, Spanish, PE, & visual/performing arts EVERY DAY ( in Dallas, they just got one non-core course once a day), which I believe will help us develop more well-rounded graduates than the ISDs.

Celtia - nice to have another member with a science background... should make for an informative forum!

Anyway, weird that you are from Dallas; I am too! I know that the DISD is quite weak, but that the magnet schools in Dallas are, on the contrary, very strong!

Looking forward to having you around.

p.s. - what are some of your favorite Dallas restaurants??? I'd ask for primal friendly, but for the most part, any restaurant can be made primal friendly (with a creative approach).

Well, unfortunately, pk, most of my eating out is just the regular chain restaurants. Places like Chili's, etc., are usually the easiest places for myself and whomever I'm with to eat according to our own preferences.

Since there's already 2 of us, it would sure be nice to get up a group of N. Texas Primal-minded folks to eat out with every now and then!

I think everyone will get a kick out of this.....I work for a bread and cereal company. Since going primarily primal in the past year, it's been tough to stay committed to my job. I cringe everytime someone mentions that "whole grains are healthy" or that we "need whole grains in our diets." Might be time to start searching out something different once the economy picks up.

Use to work for a large insurance company in a stuffy position that required a suit, nylons and heals, blech. As I was rounding the corner for home one day, I saw one of our daughters running one way, while her “want to be boyfriend” ran the other way. It was like a cartoon,(or a nightmare lol)…I quit to raise our own kids at that point, years ago. Of course they’re all grown and gone now.

Interesting how many people are in fields related to health here in one way or another.

Get Primal and Livingprimal, ha funny!

Pk, congrats on the tennis ranking!
