ok, like a lot of primal substitutes, mashed potatoes may not be TECHNICALLY right name, but they look like 'em and taste better!

This recipe variation can use cauliflower, but I like to use TURNIPS:

Ingredients:

1.5 lbs of turnips
1/4 tsp white pepper
Dash of sea salt
1 tsp minced onion flakes
2 Tbsp organic butter
2 Tbsp organic heavy cream

Directions:
Peel and dice turnips to very small squares and boil till extremely tender (almost mushy, but not quite). Once the turnips are done, throw everything in a bowl and blend like you would mashed potatoes! Add spices as necessary.

One thing about turnips compared to cauliflower is that turnips have more "spice" and will add a nice kick to your mashed.

Serve with a nice rack of lamb.

This looks nice, using this recipe tomorrow for dinner.

Which variation do you consider healthier? cauliflower or turnip? why do you typically the turnips? flavor, nutritional value, texture?

What is the nutritional composition of turnips? Carbs, vitamins, etc...

Why do I always get Parsnip and Turnip mixed up? Anyway, see below the carb content for cauliflower and turnip is about the same, so I guess it comes down to taste. I was thinking parsnip, which I love the taste of, especially roasted at the holidays. I was thinking of a roasted parsnip and garlic mash, with a bit of cream and maybe a few crumbles of blue cheese, a stilton, because its the holidays. I included the parsnip, its WAY higher in carbs.

Shelby - Thanks for the info... That is a great site btw, I had used it a long time ago, I think, and had forgotten about it. Thanks.

Wow, blue cheese is a niceee touch. I believe I will be following your lead.

OMG, pk, zingermans is just round the corner, so if your ever here, let us know and we can go and eat there. Ari is fantastic and I am sure the cornerstone for the incredible food available locally. The farmers market is something else, we can get bison and all kinds of grass fed meat, duck eggs, etc. Its like a little oasis here. We like Vinology as well, focussed on organic and locally grown I had duck confit last night. Our wedding reception will be there. Where abouts are you?

Getting married soon... Congrats. I played tennis at Northwestern in Chicago, so I traveled to Ann Arbor every year for matches. We always ate at Zingermans before our matches... Their espresso (among other things) is unreal!

That farmers market sounds superb. Ann Arbor is cool, and it seems like a lot of the locales are very primal friendly.

I ended up making these today. Here is a pic of them in the process of being whipped:

I actually could not decide on turnips versus cauliflower, so i used both! this is a 1/2 and 1/2 rendition... I also added roasted garlic, and will garnish with blue cheese tom.
