A few of us got to talking about our canine partners over on the "Moving Slowly" challenge thread, and thought we should share pics.
These are my hounds, Wyrsa (black female staghound) and Goblin (brindle male greyhound). Pardon the muzzles -- I took this shot during the pair's first meeting; because greys have very thin skin, it pays to take precautions during introductions. They don't wear the muzzles anymore, of course.

Specimens! They look awesome - athletes!
Here is my walking partner:
She is actually great to run sprints with too.
Barbey - what percent primal are your dogs? Eating/living wise? Do you run sprints with them? They are fast, eh?

Aww, ok, I gotta admit she's pretty cute...even if she is puny. ;)

Funny thing, even though they're one of the most ancient pure dog breeds, greys aren't particularly primal as far as their ability to survive in the wild. They're thin-skinned and nearly hairless in places, which makes them quite sensitive to extremes of heat and cold. However, they're marvellous companions and good hunters due to their speed and excellent eyesight, so they're good compliments to man.
Average greyhound top speed is about 40 mph, which makes them one of the fastest land animals. Much faster than me! But, they take their "pet" title seriously and are generally couch-potatoes in nature. My Wyrsa loves to go for walks and runs, but Goblin would rather lounge about the house. Also, though they're built for sprinting rather than endurance, they don't necessarily like to do it on a leash. It's great fun to watch them charge around the yard, though.
Primal eating for the dogs...hmmm. Not really. They eat a top-quality dog food, but it's still packaged crunchies instead of raw.
How about yours?

I can't resist! This is Bizz, our one-year-old pug. I grew up with Labrador Retrievers and have always considered myself to be a "big dog" person. However, circumstances do not allow me to give a large dog the proper time and space.
He really did love learning to swim at the lake. I swear!
On a side note, does Picasa not work for image hosting here? Forgive me if this question has been asked and answered already.

Some great pups! Nice...
Barbey - My dog is very primal... I feed her regular, organic dog food from time to time... But she mostly just eats my left over meat. Also, you mentioned couch potatoes... My dog is like that too... But when it is time to sprint, she is ready to sprint! really I think a dog's life is a lot like a cave person's. Eat, sleep, nap, play, sprint.
Shine - where are you in tx? Im in dallas.

Hey, Philip! I've been meaning to respond to your question for a couple weeks now, lol. Right now, I am living in Temple; it's about ninety minutes north of Austin. Next June I'm moving to Austin, I don't care what I have to do! Three years in semi-rural central Texas has been a bit more than I can handle. Are you from Dallas?

Here's my pup Cooper. Best we can tell, he is part beagle, part terrier and full of energy! He's pretty primal, once in a great while he gets grain free kibble (EVO) but most of the time,he eats just like me: grass-fed beef, pastured pork, free range chicken, and eggs, organic fruits and veggies straight from the farm. If that makes him a littel spoiled, well, that's ok, he's worth it! :)

I have no idea... he was a rescued stray. One vet we had thought he was a pure bred smooth coat border collie.
