(...to borrow a phrase. Thanks, Tarlach!)
What are yours? That is, where do you draw the line on foods that are unacceptable? How do you define "unacceptable"?
Mine:
1. Grains
2. Sugars
3. Artificial/alternative sweeteners
4. Processed fats (aka frankenfats)
When I say "unacceptable," I don't mean that I will NEVER EVER EVER eat these things. Rather, I mean that I avoid them 99% or more of the time. When I do consume them, it's almost always in tiny quantities (like a hint of honey in a primal-ish pumpkin tart filling).
Dairy comes close to making the list, but I do eat butter often, plus cheese and yogurt in small amounts several times a week. So, I guess dairy falls more into the "sensible indulgence" catetory.

Great post... I would say that I am actually exactly the same. I also try to avoid foods that have the face of being healthy, but whose negatives might outweight their positives... ie - Carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes even, bananas... I will eat some food from that category from time to time, but try to refrain. If I am going to have something that doesn't whole heartedly promote my ell being, I want it to knock my socks off!

For me, it's
grains
sugars
soy
frankenfats
I'm working on giving up artificial sweeteners (for me that means the Diet Coke that I use for my morning caffeine hit). Think I've got that one licked, as I just this week discovered that adding stevia and heavy whipping cream makes coffee not only palatable but enjoyable!
I also limit daily dairy to grass-fed butter and HWC in coffee, but I probably have cheese too often to say that lactose and casein are personal sins.
Grains
Beans
Potatoes
Dairy
Sugar
I’ll make an exception some times, mostly holidays or celebrations etc, except when it comes to anything that might contain gluten.

Good ones, Posy.
I forgot to mention legumes and potatoes, which I eat only rarely.
Sometimes (maybe 1-2x per month) I'll have sweet potatoes or banana; otherwise, I'm like you, pk. I do eat carrots pretty regularly though.
Have y'all read Melissa Urban's Carrot Train to Crazytown (http://www.urbangetsdiesel.com/2009/06/carrot-train-to-crazytown.html)? Great article to keep things in perspective.

Yes, I will have a sweet potato or a bana when I want it, but I do not consider them a sensible eat...

Ha, no I hadn’t read carrot train to crazytown, good one!
Carrots and bananas are on my eat list, so I eat em when I want. (My dog eats a baby carrot as a treat in place of a dog biscuit). Potatoes, not so often. There’s a place in Stanley ID where I’ll always have one, just plain nothing on it, plenty good that way. Never found a place that compares. I know this because I’ve investigated ;) Hmm, now that I think about it, maybe the surroundings there have more to with the pleasing experience than anything else. Huh, hadn’t thought of that before now. Guess I have no need (or excuse) to investigate any farther if that’s the case lol!

Grain
Sugar
Legumes
O6 Vegetable oils
Dairy other than cream and butter
Nightshades (peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, etc.)
Olives, Avocados, Cashews (mostly becasue I don't like them anyways and animals have much higher quality fats)
Man-made "food"
Disclaimer 1: I rarely eat bell peppers during the summer. When I eat chicken (also rare) the seasoning I use has bell pepper in it.
Disclaimer 2: I am actually eating some sweet potatoes right now for blood sugar experiments. I don't think I will eat them regularly but they are 10x better than wheat or sugar to do the tests with.

Interesting, klcarbaugh.
Why don't you eat much chicken? Just preference, or is there a health reason?
I'm always curious on the nightshade front, and have been doing some reading on the subject lately. I'm not convinced yet, as I personally don't seem to experience any issues with them, but I may experiment with nixing them for a while to see if, like grains, it's a case of not knowing the difference because I've never lived without them.
Do you notice any difference on the rare occasions when you do consume bell peppers? Or is it more of a cumulative things -- again, like the effect of grains on non-celiacs?

:) Urban's blog is one of my favorites. I like her drive, perspective, and attitude. Makes me wish we had a CrossFit gym around here -- or that I had the resources to start one!
Oooh, which place in Stanley? (Love that town! I didn't make it up there this summer, though, alas.) My "happy non-primal Stanley memory" is of the oatmeal at that little coffee shop...you know the one? Talk about atmosphere! :)
klcarbaugh, manmade “food“, good way to sum it all up! :)
Barbey, Oh yep I know the one, just a small place! If I’m not turned around, I believe it faces east. Ha I can’t remember the name of it, or the name of the steakhouse though! I usually get up there every year, although I didn’t make it this year either darn it! I use to live in the area in summers, waaaay up Jordan creek (left at the dredge) past the sunbeam mine (before it was back in action and they started clear cutting). My log frame kitchen is still there and cared for. I get a kick out of knowing it’s still being put to good use, I’m sure by hunters.
I haven’t had a chance to read much more of the blog but plan to…who doesn‘t like a little mischief and mayhem!

Barbey: I don't eat a lot of chicken because of the cooking instruments I have (stove and micro, oven's broken) . Cooking chicken on a stove top doesn't taste the same. When I am home for the summer (I am away at college now) I eat grilled chicken and chicken cooked in my parents AROMA cooker. The AROMA air cooker chicken is the best tasting chicken in the world and nothing compares.
Chicken does have more 06 than other animals, but not enough to concern me.
