I realized I was just throwing little posts around without introducing myself. I've been primal/paleo for a year and a half. It's made a big difference in my life. I'm a native New Yorker, born and raised in the Bronx. 44 y.o. and blessed with two amazing kids and a wonderful wife. She's buying into this. The kids, not so much. Still living and working in the urban jungle. I was hoping to find some like minded people, just think it will be a good thing. My other big passion is music, I'm a guitarist. So... Hi.

Nice to meet you, BMcD! I wish I could get my wife into more of a Paleo diet, at least. But she's a pesco-vegetarian and still relies heavily on carbs. How did you convince your wife to go along?

Welcome! I hope you can both learn and teach here.

Welcome!

This recent post (http://www.raisin-hell.com/2009/11/just-say-no-to-sugary-cereal.html) by Raisin Hell talks about an experiment in which kids were offered only certain foods (low vs high sugar cereal, in this case, but the point stands) and they were satisfied with the option available. Might be helpful to you??? Easy for me to say...I don't have kids!

TribeCalledFit, some thoughts on converting my wife: being the cook in the house has helped a lot. We both work and she eats what I cook. She also was the healthier eater of the two of us, until I went paleo. So she was predisposed to eating better. Turning her onto baking with almond meal helped too. Giving her an alternative to try whenever she suggested something non-paleo. And my constant railing about the food industries, pharma cos, gov't, etc. has brain washed her the right way. The biggest things may have been her seeing what it did for my body and the thought of slowing down aging. Preventing aging can be a powerful motivator for some women.

Thanks BarbeyGirl. I'll check that out. I've got them way down on the sugar. Trying to get them to be a little more carnivorous.

I hear ya on the difficulties of converting kids. Mine are 12 and 14, and sure have minds of their own.

kids... I'd imagine that's a tough one. I think the reason I went looking for a healthy way to eat, even though I felt and looked fine, was because I had the freedom to eat whatever I wanted and in absurd amounts. I don't know how I would have reacted if my parents tried to enforce eating rules.

Let me know how this goes. It is of interest to me! haha.

Anyway, welcome BMcD... nice to have you around. We have such a diverse community. I like that!

Hi BMcD! Hey even if the kids don’t buy into it now, maybe they’ll give it some thought later on down the road. My kids are all grown and out of the house, but now that they have kids of their own they’re thinking more about healthy food choices. Better late than never!

I think my son is starting to come around. I never try to push. And thanks to everyone for being so welcoming. This is a great little community.

Hi BMcD and all. My SO is a vegetarian, but like BMcD said, it sure helps when you're the chief cook and bottle washer. SO eats a lot less gluten than the average person, and I make good hearty soups and rice dishes for him with bone broths. He'll eat any animal products that he can tolerate. I don't think I'll ever talk him into going primal, but that's okay with me - we're both independent people, and it's his decision. We're all going to die of something.

I agree with Posy that the kids will thank you later. I was borderline diabetic by the time I was 23. That's how much junk I ate as a kid. I think it's great that so many primal folks are raising their kids with that awareness that you need to fuel your body with the good stuff - treats are just treats.

Oh, and I'm a musician, too. I'm a flute player recently taking up the tenor sax. :)

Hi Kristine. Tenor sax might be the coolest instrument of all time.
